Kortowo – the summer home of Polish korfball
For most of the year, it is the university district of Olsztyn. In summer, it becomes a lively place where young people come together for camps, activities and unforgettable holidays. For us, above all, it is the Summer Capital of Korfball.
Where Polish korfball began
Kortowo is a special place in the history of this sport.
This is where Polish korfball was born in 1987, and since the ’90s the summer korfball camp has been organised here as part of that tradition.
Coming to Kortowo means training in the place where Polish korfball began and from where several generations of korfball players have their unforgettable memories.
Everything you need for a great summer camp
Kortowo offers everything needed for an active, comfortable and well-organised stay. Accommodation is based on the University of Warmia and Mazury dormitories, with meals in student canteen, groceries shops and other useful facilities all nearby… bar, disco and the libery;)
The area also offers excellent sports and leisure infrastructure, including:
- athletic stadium
- grass and hard-surface courts
- beach volleyball court
- tennis courts
- a disc golf course
- parks and forest areas
- stud farm and horse riding school
- places for bonfires and barbecues
There is also a lake with a swimming area and water equipment rental, including kayaks and pedal boats – a camp tradition is a trip around the island.
Sport, nature and summer atmosphere
What makes Kortowo unique is the combination of sport and summer lifestyle. It is green, spacious and full of energy, while still being calm and easy to move around. It is a place where participants can train hard, relax outdoors and enjoy time together beyond the sports programme.
A safe and comfortable environment
The district is quite separated from the rest of the city. The campus has limited vehicle traffic, which makes it easier and safer for young participants to move around. Olsztyn is a calm city, Poland is generally a safe country for visitors, and Kortowo itself has additional university security and monitoring. so that guests visiting Kortowo can feel safe. Professional lifeguards ensure the safety of bathers (excluding group leaders) from morning until evening.
